Gene K. Garrison - Artist
Welcome

Coloring books captured my attention as a child. Doodles appeared all over my notebooks, often portraits in profile — and hats. I don't know what that was all about.

When I entered college I stuck my toes into the waters of the artistic world. It felt good. I was off and running with Drawing and Perspective, Watercolor, Oil Painting, Life Drawing, Sculpture, Art History, Photography  and Cinematography. Art was my major at Arizona State, Phoenix College, and Glendale College. I also participated in various intensive workshops in Arizona.

I love experimentation. That's why I am a member of the International Society of Experimental  Artists, a group called Q-2 Artists, and  the Sedona Arts Center.

My husband and I lived in Cave Creek, Arizona for 27 years, where I freelanced articles to various magazines, and was a feature articles writer for a local magazine. At the same time I was writing books I founded an artists' cooperative, Desert Artists, Inc., where I was active for 16 years before moving north about a hundred miles.

I like some mystery to my art, and am pleased when viewers see something in it that I didn't intentionally put there.  For instance, what do you see near the center of the painting in the heading?
I didn't put that fish there, but when I saw it I squealed with delight.
